Finish This Business

Northrup with her daughter and granddaughter.

When Christiane Northrup, M.D., started writing “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom,” her colleagues told her that her patients were crazy. The 1994 international bestseller explores women’s backgrounds, their daily lives, their health issues.

“As I began research for the book,” Northrup says, “I discovered more and more women in abusive situations dealing with the same health issues. ‘Crazy’ was a global epidemic.”

Early in her career, Northrup treated female patients with debilitating mood and reproductive discomforts, from severe depression to chronic pain. Stories of extreme abuse surfaced in these interactions, leading her to ponder whether there might be a link between the women’s experiences, home environments and health issues.

“Her work and internationally published books have helped shift those stereotypes and create an avenue for genuine healing in generations of women across the globe,” writes Science of Mind Associate Editor Holli Sharp in her profile of Northrup in the September 2018 issue. “She says the mental physical and sexual abuse rising to the surface it not defined by gender. Men, both in the spotlight and on Main Street, are now bravely acknowledging the cruelty and neglect they’ve experiences, aligning their masculine energy with a long and winding feminine lineage.”

Northrup puts it this way: “The light is getting so bright and the darkness is coming out. Just like the total eclipse last year, every one of you has had an eclipse in your own life in some way. It is time for us to finish this business.”

New Thought Walden Awards Logo.

With nearly 300 nominations to consider, the committee representing six of the nation’s largest New Thought organizations had a big job: choosing the recipients of the inaugural New Thought Walden Awards. Some of the 27 recipients are widely known within New Thought and in our broader culture. From Dr. Christiane Northrup to Bishop Carlton Pearson, Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith to Leah Pearlman, Rev. Dr. William Barber to Dr. Rocco Errico, the recipients were chosen for their empowering spiritual ideas and philosophies.

The Walden Awards were initiated by Unity and given in conjunction with Centers for Spiritual Living and Science of Mind magazine, Association for Global New Thought, Agape International Spiritual Center, Universal Foundation for Better Living and Affiliated New Thought Network. AGNT will host an online awards summit on October 23, 2018, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. PT. Details of the summit can be found at AGNT.Today.

We offer our congratulations and our gratitude to each of these New Thought luminaries. For a full list of the recipients, visit scienceofmind.com/2018-new-thought-walden-awards/

Travel the World with CSL

Hands on map.

A new series called #traveltheworldwithCSL features Spiritual Living centers both near and far. To kick off this endeavor, CSL shared an inspirational message from Rev. Dr. John B. Waterhouse from the Center for Spiritual Living Asheville. The talk, called “Infinite Possibilities,” offers a backdrop to the work being accomplished in Asheville and across CSL and New Thought communities.

CSL Asheville asserts, “In New Thought we often talk about Law, that part of God that takes ideas and makes them manifest. The Law is multifaceted. In fact, we have many different laws: the law of cause and effect, the law of compensation, the law of attraction, karmic law, the law of Mind, and we could go on and on. But they are all part of the same overall Law. And that Law says that when we transcend our past and realize the future is in no way limited by that past, then we become open to Infinite Possibilities.”

Let Dr. Waterhouse inspire you to your own infinite possibilities. Watch his presentation at www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoSNFwezI5E&feature=youtu.be. #traveltheworldwithCSL is an invitation for all CSL centers to be promoted through our network. If your Center for Spiritual Living would like to share a video message, upcoming event or special news, please send it to jessica@inspiregraphics.net

Conscious Communion with the Divine

by Dr. Ernest Holmes

Let us take as the thought for our meditation and prayer today: “The Lord is my shepherd…. He restoreth my soul.”

Feeling that we are one with the Divine Presence, we now seek to enter into conscious communion with it, for this is affirmative prayer and this is spiritual meditation. It is through spiritual meditation that we reach out, or in, to that Divine Presence which fills all space and also finds its dwelling place in the sanctuary of our own heart. Let us, then, shut everything out of the mind for a few moments as we listen confidently and quietly.

“The Lord is my shepherd. … He restoreth my soul.” Believing that God is everywhere, and knowing that the Divine Life can restore my soul, I now affirm and deeply accept Divine guidance.

I believe that I am sustained by an infinite Power, guided by an infinite Intelligence and guarded by an infinite Love. I feel this Presence in, around and through me, and through all people. I am now saying to my own mind, “You are being directed. There is a Power greater than you are upon which you may rely. You are relying on this Power and you are letting this Intelligence govern and guide. You are fully aware of Divine Love and protection.”

And my own mind is accepting this as the great truth in my life. Therefore, I lay aside every doubt or fear and enter gladly into a newness of life. I do believe that the Lord is my shepherd. I do believe that He restoreth my soul.

— As heard on “This Thing Called Life,” Sunday, January 29, 1950
