Say Thank You

Gratetude Quote

We all know that joyful people live longer, bounce back more quickly from hardship and have more soulful connections with others. But how on Earth does a person choose joy? Joy is what happens when life is going great . . . right?

It turns out that joy might just be something you do rather than something you feel, making it accessible right now. For example, the simple act of expressing gratitude can boost happiness levels measurably, according to a 2012 Harvard study.

Watch this video from “Science of Happiness: Gratitude Experiment,” in which participants are asked to write a paragraph on the person who was most influential in their lives. See what happens when they are asked to call that person and read the paragraph.

Read more about the power of gratitude in Ellen Castro’s article “Joy Is a Choice!” in the September 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine.

Give Your Body the Sleep It Needs

Sleeping personWhen it comes to sleep, many of us suffer from chronic deprivation – especially women, says Dr. James Rouse. Citing a British sleep study on 949 women, Rouse points out that women use more of their brains during the day than men do and subsequently need more sleep. Scans of women’s brains show faster and more efficient cross-hemisphere connections. The more active the brain is during the day, the more it needs to rest at night.

You can see Rouse at Mile Hi Church in Denver, Colorado, at “Pathways to Healing: A Weekend to Explore Ways to Heal” October 7 – October 9, 2016. This powerful retreat offers participants a taste of sound healing, neurosculpting, shamanic healing and inspired self-care. Don’t miss keynote speaker Lissa Rankin, M.D., as she presents “Getting Back to 100 Percent: A Guide to Radical Self-Healing.”

Let Go of Comparison

Let Go of ComparisonIn an age with statistics readily available on our size, beauty, intelligence, salary and even how many friends we have, knowing how we measure up has become a worldwide obsession — and killjoy.

Some comparison is natural, says social scientist Sameer Hinduja. Those we admire can inspire us; those less fortunate can make us feel more grateful. But when comparison turns destructive, we need to aggressively identify its triggers. Watch his fascinating TedTalk here.

Learn more about letting go of comparison in Petra Weldes’s article “Creating a Joy-Filled Life” and Swati Singh’s “Seven Ways to True Beauty” in the September 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine.

Know Your Oneness with God
By Ernest Holmes

Know Your Oneness with God

When we know our Oneness with God and Law, what a great burden is removed. Any sense of opposition is removed from the consciousness which perceives Unity. That which we call OUR subjective mind is but a point in Universal Mind where our personality maintains its individualized expression of Spirit. If we think of ourselves as being separated from the Universe, we shall be limited by this thought, for it is a belief in separation from God which binds and limits. WE ARE BOUND BY NOTHING EXCEPT BELIEF.

There is but One Mind. There is nothing but Unity; there is nothing but freedom; there is nothing but completeness; there is nothing but Totality. Begin at the beginning and reason this out, time after time, until all doubt disappears.

This is an excerpt from “The Science of Mind,” written by spiritual visionary Dr. Ernest Holmes. Read more in the September 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine.
