The Ripple Effect of You

In a gentle way, you can shake the world.

In your mind’s eye, imagine dropping a small pebble in a calm body of water. Notice how the ripple created by just one pebble expands into multiple, overlapping ripples. Now imagine that you are the pebble. You matter. Your thoughts, actions and decisions matter. Imagine that the way you step out into your day has a rippling impact on the world around you.

Our connectedness creates a grand opportunity to make a difference! Read more in Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones’s inspiring article “One Vine: Making a Difference in the World” in the May issue of Science of Mind magazine. Jones is also the author of “The Art of Uncertainty – How to Live in the Mystery of Life.”

When the Grit Hits the Fan: Turning Grit Into Pearls
By Patricia J. Crane, Ph.D.

Oyster and PearlWhen a bit of sand gets into an oyster, the oyster doesn’t cry and complain about how unfair it is or tell the sand to get out. It responds by reflex, slowly and patiently surrounding the grain of sand with layer upon layer of a white substance. It doesn’t happen overnight, but ultimately this layering becomes a pearl that we humans value and consider beautiful.

When the grit hits the fan for us humans, the usual response is to cry and moan and rant that it’s unfair. Whether it’s a diagnosis of cancer, a spouse who leaves, a job lost unexpectedly or betrayal by a trusted friend, we say, “WHY ME?!”

Yet in the anguish, there is always the still, small voice of Spirit, nudging us to trust the process, guiding us to begin surrounding the grit with layers of awareness, acceptance, forgiveness and transformation. Unlike the oyster, we are at choice. READ MORE.

Spark of the Divine
By Sara Awad

Sunflower

People often wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not a genius, and I don’t have an office in some towering high-rise.
But when I tell them the answer,
They look at me with surprise.
I say it’s in the feeling in my heart
The thought in my mind
The power of my word
The faith that leads me when I am blind.
I am a spark of the Divine.

I claim what I want
Just as simply as can be.
And to the last atom,
The Universe trembles, shifting to meet my every need.
When people ask why, I say
It’s the Divinity in my nature,
In the Creative Force within
In the Intelligence that expresses in my image
In the limitless part of me that neither ends nor begins
I am a spark of the Divine.

Yes, many have wondered
Just what it is about me.
This powerful presence
This inward mystery
To their questions, I answer
It’s in the essence of my Spirit
In the Truth of my Soul
In my sacred Perfection
In the part of me that’s Whole
I am a spark of the Divine

When I call out in prayer,
My head’s not bowed
I don’t kneel down in fear
Before some distant God to beg out loud
Why? To that I say
I am the answer to all I seek,
A reflection of the One Mind
A part of the greatest power there is
The One I look inside to find
I am a spark of the Divine.

The Irresistible Impulse to Create
Ernest Holmes

Ernest HolmesIn some way which you know not of, through some process which never reveals its face, Life has entered into you and with it the irresistible impulse to create. You belong to the universe in which you live, you are one with the Creative Genius back of this vast array of ceaseless motion, this original flow of life. You are as much a part of it as the sun, the earth and the air. There is something in you telling you this – like a voice echoing from some mountaintop of inward vision, like a light whose origin no man has seen, like an impulse welling up from an invisible source.

Your soul belongs to the universe. Your mind is an outlet through which the Creative Intelligence of the universe seeks fulfillment.

This is an excerpt from “This Thing Called You,” written by spiritual visionary Dr. Ernest Holmes. Read more in the May 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine.
