The Race Story ReWrite Project:
How communities are served when trust is established
among diverse ethnic groups

The March issue’s article on the Race Story ReWrite Project has created some interesting conversations with our readers, including one who said that even using the word “race” itself is outdated and should be avoided. The website www.racestoryrewrite.com features videos of people talking about their experiences with ethnic groups other than their own and what they as individuals are doing to create a future of justice and healing. Part of the Focusing not on what is wrong, but on what can be accomplishedprogram’s success comes from focusing not on what is wrong, but on what can be accomplished.

Forging relationships and merging diverse perspectives

Project cofounder Tod Ewing wrote in his blog on the site: What I learned is that two people (or communities) who come from races that have historical suspicion and distrust . . . can still build bonds of unity over time if they both can keep the commitment to serving the community in mind. If their commitment to service is strong enough, it becomes a motivating factor for addressing, in real time, these historic fears, doubts and suspicions that will inevitably arise during their collaborative effort. And, if they’re honestly addressed in real time, at least two things happen: A relationship can be forged and the community being served becomes the beneficiary of the merging of their diverse perspectives.”

Recent topics have included the most successful ways readers have found to stay focused on creating the life they want, and how to create healthy relationships with pre-teen children. Especially fun: Dozens of readers wrote unique “Tweetments,” prayer treatments of 160 characters or less. Here’s one of our favorites from Patrick Soran, editor of our sister publication, Creative Thought:

Seeing Jesus as a Way-Shower
Ernest Holmes

Dr. Ernest Holmes

To think of Jesus as being different from other individuals is to misunderstand his mission and purpose in life. He was a way-shower and proved his way to be a correct one. His method was direct, dynamic and powerful, yet extremely easy and simple to comprehend. He believed in God in himself as Power and Reality. Believing in God within, he was compelled to believe in himself.
