“Breaking the Cycle of Poverty” Continues

When we last reported, we described the work of a Study Group in Costa Rica. The traditional Study Group has evolved and is bringing Science of Mind techniques to largely illiterate people living in poverty—people who have been living on less than two dollars a day of family income. This portion of the world represents a fantastic opportunity for outreach and service, and it is helping us move toward “a world that works for everyone.

The results are starting to show. The visions of the people being served here are beginning to manifest.

Danni finished his schooling at the age of nineteen, and he’s now pursuing his vision—to be a futbol (soccer) star. He’s traveling to games where he can play and be visible to the kind of people who recruit players for the pro teams.

Yalny was one of the early students in the School Program. She finished some years ago. She has become a mother, and her two young children are also in the El Puente School Program. She’s been making some money with handcrafts, but her dream has always been to teach. She came to our house excitedly to tell us that she had been hired by a local school district to help teach in third grade!

Alejandro is the first indigenous Bribri student in The Bridge School Program. He’s now in high school, and he’s following his vision.

The government trade school continues to teach classes at our home, with the latest class in Construction Techniques completing an outside classroom. This classroom will continue to be used to teach trade school classes.

We’re seeing every day as a miracle here, and with the support of people like you, the miracles continue. This year, we were able to help 126 indigenous children attend school. They are enrolled in 15 schools in Costa Rica and 5 schools in Panama. We have made 32 microloans to help people start small businesses, and the expansion of this program is continuing. About 150 people a week come to a Community Kitchen held at our home. The people in these programs and their families are the community we serve.

We see the opportunity to spread this approach for breaking the cycle of poverty to every corner of the globe. That’s why we’re excited to be included in the Global Services Outreach Community.

Can you help? You sure can!

Spread the word of this program throughout congregations you’re associated with.
