Mystic Hours: A Daybook of Inspirational Wisdom and Devotion
Mystic Hours: A Daybook of Inspirational Wisdom and Devotion

The present age has seen the movement of religious teachings far beyond the confines of churches and monasteries. Alongside this development is a growing appetite for the practical application of spirituality in our everyday lives. Brother Wayne Teasdale, a lay monk with a broad background and history for creating a common ground between diverse religions, continues in this tradition with his most recent book,The Mystic Hours.

Although, as Brother Teasdale notes, the title refers to the Benedictine rule of fixed hours for prayers, these daily quotations make for good reading at any time of day; and they are not confined to any particular system of thought. “I believe they are applicable to every age and every human situation,” notes Teasdale. They range from the very ancient sixth century B.C. Tao te Ching, to someone as contemporary as the Catholic monk Thomas Merton: “Meditation has no point and no reality unless it is firmly rooted in life.” Each of the 365 readings is followed by Teasdale’s insightful commentary.

Walking through Walls: Practical Spirituality in an Impractical World
Walking through Walls: Practical Spirituality in an Impractical World

Eight traits in eight weeks to a life that is rewarding, is the end goal of this straightforward, practical book by Lee Jampolsky. The student is guided through one spiritual trait a week. Tolerance, joyfulness, and generosity are three of the eight traits focused on for: “living a God-centered, abundant, successful life.”

Each trait is accompanied by a discussion and lessons for improvement. There is a suggested daily and weekly schedule of how to apply the lessons for the best results. Also, there are prayers, affirmations, meditations, and quotes that provide spiritual food for thought in a comfortable and easy tone.

Jampolsky adds a personal touch as well; he shares his own experiences and challenges on his path to spiritual discovery with the reader. The subtitle, Practical Spirituality in an Impractical World, beautifully sums up what this book offers for readers ready to take the next step on their spiritual path.

A Call to Live a Symbolic Life Workshop
A Call to Live a Symbolic Life Workshop

A path for simultaneously opening one’s soul and psyche is the goal of The Call to Live a Symbolic Life. This four-CD set is condensed from the live workshop of medical intuitive and best selling author (Sacred Contracts) Caroline Myss. The focus of this program is to help the student develop and put to use “symbolic sight” so that he can better understand himself and his life’s mission.

Myss believes that we each have sacred contracts and that we agree to the terms of those contracts prior to entering our current physical reality. The workshop assists in identifying and understanding the conditions for fulfilling the student’s personal contract in this lifetime. Explanation and guidance are also given for working with the energies of the chakras and how to intuit our actions and reactions symbolically.

Attendees at the workshop provide real-life experiences for Myss to use as models of the archetype entities that she feels we are encoded with. The intention is to recognize the archetypes by their discernible patterns and work with them for the purpose of moving beyond literal living to symbolic living.
