Karen Drucker

CD, $15.00
TayToones Music

In her third Songs of the Spirit CD series, Karen Drucker stays true to her aspirations for her first two offerings. “The purpose and intention of these CD’s is the same. It’s all about you singing along with me…and lifting your voice with life- affirming messages.” Karen invites us to change the words, to personalize the affirmations, “…do whatever you need to do to make the message real for you.”

Drucker’s beautiful voice is accompanied by a group of talented musicians and singer Annie Stocking on background vocals. There are twelve selections, and most listeners will likely discover that they resonate with the inspirational lyrics of all of them. Inner Reflections
Engagement Calendar 2006

Softcover, $12.95
Self-Realization Fellowship

The award-winning Inner Reflections Engagement Calendar 2006 from the Self-Realization Fellowship is as beautiful as its calendars of previous years. Measuring 9” x 7” it is convenient for a purse, briefcase, and desktop. Inspirational quotes from founder Paramahansa Yogananda are united with striking imagery from some of the world’s top nature photographers.

The images are so wonderful you may feel inspired to make travel arrangements to some of the breathtaking locations that are featured; like the majestic Iguazú Falls in Brazil, or the breathtaking sunrise captured over Second Vermillion Lake in Banff National Park, Canada, which is coupled with the counsel: “May the narrow rivers of our lives be widened by torrential rains of Thy blessings, and pass through vast lowlands of humbleness, self-sacrifice, and consideration for others, to enter in purity Thy Blissful Sea.”

In addition to this calendar’s function as a place to note appointments and special dates, the Fellowship’s intention is to also “provide beauty, inspiration, and encouragement for the year ahead.” A bonus to this calendar is, at the end of the year the weekly grids can be removed, leaving the recipient with a stunning collection of photographs and quotes for future comfort and inspiration.

Life is Now
Johnnie Proby

CD, $15.00
BluProbe Records

Johnnie Proby’s new CD Life is Now is an excellent example of her diverse range of talent. She infuses ten tracks of inspirational songs with a variety of musical styles; there’s jazz, classical, gospel, and rhythm and blues.

For Johnnie the intention of this CD is “to help us to follow our passion and declare our purpose… enjoy the journey as we discover that life is now.”

The seventh song on the disc, “A Change Is Gonna Come” is delivered in such a big Broadway musical style that it left me yearning for my favorite show-tunes. She goes on to partner her beautiful soprano voice with the lyrics of the ’60s pop favorite “Born Free,” as well as an “old-school,” R&B favorite “Golden Time of Day.” Johnnie Proby’s vocal talent is only surpassed by her ability to use it!

Buddhism: On the Path to Nirvana
Swati Chopra
Hardcover, $35.00
Mercury Books London

This beautifully illustrated book contains nearly two-hundred photographs of Buddhist life in Southeast Asia. There are lamas in prayer, monasteries, and relics. Wrapped around the visual artistry is the writing of Swati Chopra, a Delhi-based journalist who writes on religion and spirituality.

Chopra’s interest in the subject arises from the way Buddhism lends itself to radical interpretations in cultural, social, political, ecological, and spiritual situations. She takes us on a guided tour of the path of the Buddha and in the process educates us on one of the world’s greatest faiths.
